Our Active School Committee 2024-2025
Thanks to our wonderful active school committee for all their hard work throughout the
year and for organising such a fantastic active school week!
GAA Coaching
The children are continuing to develop their GAA skills at their weekly training sessions
with Odhran.
2024
Meet our active school committee!
Our Active School Committee is made up of students from 1st-6th Class. The committee
members attend ASF meetings, plan exciting events in the school, organise the P.E.
equipment and encourage everyone to be more active. The committee organised a slogan
and poster competition in our school. There were so many fantastic entries and it was very
difficult to choose a winner. There were three finalists chosen who all received ‘active
prizes’. The overall winning slogan was ‘Don’t be lazy, Exercise like Crazy’. Well done to
everyone for taking part.

Bike Week 2023
The whole school celebrated Bike Week from 13th-21st May, with children cycling to and from school and participating in a Bike Safety Workshop with Seamus from Electric Bike Trails. Seamus even brought in a tandem bike and the children enjoyed cycling around the school yard and basketball court while learning about the importance of safety on our roads.
We held a poster and slogan competition in the school to promote Bike Safety Week. There were some excellent entries and we would like to thank everyone who took part.
Partnerships
St Mary’s Senior Football Champions visit Kilnagross N.S.
The staff and children were delighted to welcome the players from St Mary’s
GAA club to our school in October following their outstanding county final
win. It was fantastic to welcome back some past pupils and celebrate their
amazing achievement. The children got a chance to ask the players questions
and hold the Fenagh cup!
Gaelic Football Coaching
The children really enjoy their GAA coaching every Thursday. Thanks to their
coach Jensen who helps to develop the children’s skills and keeps them
motivated and active.
Water Safety Visit
On 14th March, David Fitzpatrick from Water Safety Ireland visited the
school to give a presentation on water safety. He covered the Land PAWS
programme during his visit. He also taught the children non-contact rescue
techniques and discussed personal safety. Following the visit, the children
completed workbooks based on the information they had learned. The
children were delighted to receive certificates for completing the PAWS
programme.
What club are you in?
The students in 5th & 6th Class completed ‘What Club Are You In?’ surveys
around the school. They did a fantastic job and displayed the results on a bar
chart. It was a brilliant way for the children to see all the clubs that are
available to join in the area. There seems to be something for everyone!
