Skip Around Europe Challenge-2025
The whole school recently took part in a 4-week ‘Skip Around Europe’ challenge. All classes
built short daily skipping breaks into their school day (1 skip=1km). Working together, their
combined skips brought them to many capital cities across Europe, opening rich learning
opportunities across many different subject areas. The challenge was a great success and
it was fantastic to see how the children’s skipping skills progressed over the four weeks.
Run Around Ireland Challenge-2024
The whole school took part in a running challenge from 6th- 31st March. The children ran
laps of the football pitch/basketball court every day. 1 lap= 1km! We added all our laps and
kilometres to try and reach various landmarks around Ireland! It was a great way to build
physical activity into the school day and bring learning outdoors.
Active Break Challenge-2023
We took on the Active Break Challenge for four weeks from 14th November- 9th December.
We know that physical activity helps us to stay healthy, concentrate and to have FUN!
We completed lots of dancing, walking and running activities. The Challenge Leaders
reminded the classes to complete their Active Break each day. Everyone thoroughly
enjoyed this challenge.
Santa Dash and Christmas Jumper Day December 2022
On Tuesday 20th December, we held our Santa Dash and Christmas Jumper day. There was
a fantastic atmosphere around the school as the staff and students ran and danced around
the school yard while singing Christmas songs. What a fantastic way to start the
Christmas holidays!
Climb the Heights Challenge
On Friday 27th January, the boys and girls undertook the Climb the Heights Challenge. The
children recorded the number of skips or jumping jacks they did. Each skip or jump
equaled one metre. Each classroom added all their skips together and we are delighted to
say we managed to climb all the mountain peaks in Europe. Well done everyone!
Playground leaders
The students in 5th and 6th class have become ‘Playground Leaders’ this year. Every
Wednesday at break time, the playground leaders set up the equipment for the Junior
room (Junior Infants-First Class). They teach the younger children how to play various
games. They use a variety of equipment including hoops, skipping ropes and bean bags. The 5th and 6th
class pupils organise the activities themselves which has developed their leadership skills. This initiative has been a fantastic success.
Active Lines
The students in 5th & 6th Class also lead the other children in a number of exercises when
they are lining up outside their classrooms in the mornings. They complete a variety of
exercises including jumping jacks, squats, running on the spot, high knees and stretches.
What a wonderful, active way to start the day!
