Physical Education
All classes are taught the 6 different P.E. strands each year: Athletics, Aquatics, Dance, Outdoor
and Adventure, Games and Gymnastics. Each class receives at least 60 minutes of timetabled
physical education per week. We are very lucky in Kilnagross N.S. to have a new basketball court, a
large pitch, lots of yard space and a hall where the children can run, jump, skip and play a variety of
games. We ensure that all our PE activities are planned so that they are accessible by all pupils.
The staff regularly attend CPD training in Physical Education.
Aquatics
The children take part in swimming lessons in Aura Leisure Centre in Carrick on Shannon. Children
from 1st-6th Class get the opportunity to partake in a block of lessons. Each week, the children get to develop new swimming strokes and techniques.
Gymnastics
The children really enjoyed their Gymnastic lessons with Helena and their teachers in Term 1. They
learned many new skills including balancing, twisting, turning, forward and backward rolls,
handstands, headstands and cartwheels. They also produced and performed a sequence with a
partner and developed good body posture through gymnastic positions and movements.
Dance
The children all joined together for our St Patrick’s Day céilí and had great fun
performing various dances including ‘Shoe the Donkey’. The children in 5th & 6th
class also attended a Sean Nós dance workshop in Drumhierney recently. It was a very interesting
and enjoyable day out for all.
